Are batteries the ultimate multitool for Europe’s energy transition?

The session brought together representatives from leading European grid operators, a battery developer, and an NGO deploying batteries to hospitals in conflict zones to ensure emergency power during blackouts. The discussion underscored the strategic importance of batteries for Europe’s energy transition, outlining both the opportunities and operational challenges for grid operators.

Speakers also demonstrated how batteries are increasingly used to support the power grid, including through the provision of voltage control, emergency power and inertia.

The panel concluded with a call for clear regulations and technical requirements to fully unlock the benefits of batteries and enhance grid stability.
