About
As the world’s largest manufacturer of clean technologies, data on China’s cleantech exports provide an important early insight into the pace and scale of the energy transition. In 2024, China produced around 80% of the world’s solar PV modules and battery cells, and 70% of electric vehicles.
This tool allows users to compare exports of different technologies to a specific country or region in both a monthly format and a yearly view. It also compares technology exports to different countries.
This dataset is uniquely powerful in providing detailed data at a country level, with a time lag of just a few weeks. The underlying data is aggregated into specific technology categories for visualisation in the data tool. The full data download includes a breakdown of the export value of individual commodity codes, and groups them by additional sub-categories.

Methodology
Efforts have been made to capture export values of clean technologies as precisely as possible. In reality, export values would be larger if you included the additional parts and raw materials that form part of the wider clean tech value chain.
