Summary
This dataset contains monthly generation, emissions and demand data for 88 geographies representing more than 90% of global power demand. Data is collected from multi-country datasets (EIA, Eurostat, Energy Institute) as well as national sources (e.g China data from the National Bureau of Statistics).
The data is updated twice a month with an update in the first week of the month followed by a second update in the third week of the month.
Note: yearly electricity data can be found here.
Data download format update (July 2026)
One row per area, month and electricity source. The “Electricity source” column covers fuels, aggregates, demand and net imports; The column “Is aggregated source” flags aggregates (Clean, Fossil, Renewables, Total generation).
Metrics are columns, not rows. Generation (TWh), Share of generation (%), Emissions (MtCO2e), Share of emissions (%) and Emissions intensity (gCO2e/kWh), as well as year-on-year changes. Emissions intensity is now available per source, not just overall. Total emissions and overall intensity are on the “Total generation” row.
Some labels have changed. Area names now follow simplified names (e.g. United States, Türkiye); membership columns are “EU member” and “OECD member” etc. with TRUE/FALSE instead of 1/0; source names use sentence case.
