London, 16 January 2026 – A new analysis from energy think tank Ember shows that solar power met 61% of the increase in US electricity demand in 2025, confirming its importance in meeting fast-growing electricity demand.
US electricity demand rose by 135 TWh in 2025, a 3.1% increase and the fourth largest annual rise in the past decade. Over the same period, solar generation increased by a record 83 TWh, a 27% increase compared to 2024 and the largest absolute growth of any electricity source. That increase alone supplied nearly two thirds (61%) of total electricity demand growth across the country.
