Nishant Bhardwaj is Director, Coal Mine Methane (Climate Change) at Ember, leading global initiatives to accelerate the reduction of methane emissions from the coal sector. With over 25 years of experience in clean energy, climate finance, and policy reform, Nishant brings a unique blend of technical expertise and strategic leadership to Ember’s work on decarbonizing fossil fuel systems. Before joining Ember, he served as Deputy Head of the Investment and Policy Solutions Division and Managing Director of Green Investment Services Global Practice at the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), where he spearheaded landmark global programs including the floating solar, methane flaring optimisation, green hydrogen, energy reforms and development of blended finance mechanisms for NDCs implementation.
Nishant’s career spans roles with the Asian Development Bank, UK DFID, and Private sector consulting, where he has advised governments, multilateral donors, and private investors on scaling clean energy investments. He holds advanced degrees in Energy and Environmental Management (Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi) and master’s degree in environmental sciences. Passionate about mobilizing finance for climate action in emerging economies, Nishant is committed to using data, policy innovation and innovative financing mechanisms/ instruments to deliver just and ambitious energy transitions.
