About
Ember’s Wind and Solar Capacity Data Explorer allows users to visualise Ember’s dataset on wind and solar capacity, including total installed capacity as well as month-on-month and year-to-date additions.
The dataset currently covers 25 countries and economies, accounting for around 93% of global solar capacity and 92% of global wind capacity. Data is gathered from a variety of sources, including government statistics, transmission system operators, regulatory agencies and other research organisations.
Coverage of this dataset will be extended on a rolling basis. Please feel free to reach out to us if you know of any potential sources/countries that could improve the dataset.
Solar capacity data is reported in GW(DC) values. Some countries report solar capacity in GW(AC) which is scaled to GW(DC) here. Our full dataset contains both DC and AC values.
The data is updated twice a month to ensure users have access to the latest trends and insights.
The Wind and Solar Capacity Data Explorer, along with all of Ember’s electricity data, is fully open and freely available under a CC BY 4.0 license.
