Argentina’s largest source of clean electricity is hydro (22%). However, over the last five years, the share of wind and solar has increased, standing at 12% in 2023. This is just below the global average (13%), but significantly below its neighbour Chile (32%).
With its increasing focus on wind and solar energy, Argentina’s dependence on gas has steadily decreased since 2019. Argentina aims for 47% renewable electricity by 2030, while the IEA’s Net Zero Emissions scenario sets out a global target of 60% renewable electricity by 2030.
